Acer has presented the Vero 514 Chromebook at a ‘Green Day’ event that advances where the shots are going with this new laptop: a large number of its components are recyclable and made from recycled materials.

The Vero 514 Chromebook is the first notebook for the Google platform that Acer launches under its green ‘Vero’ series. The company says that 30% of the materials in the chassis and display bezels are post-consumer recycled plastic. The keyboard uses 50% recycled plastic and the touchpad surface is made entirely from ocean-sourced plastics.

Other components where we see Acer’s commitment to ecology is the package used to distribute the laptop, since it is made of 90% recycled paper. Plus, when it comes time to retire your computer, Acer says the display panel is 99% recyclable.

Beyond the ecological commitment, which more and more users value in the face of the urgent need to reduce electronic waste on the planet, Acer has updated the internal hardware of this Chromebook with the most advanced Intel processors, the Twelfth generation Alder Lake for which four different models are offered as an option, from a Pentium Gold 8505 to a Core i7-1255U.

Your screen mounts a panel 14-inch IPSwith or without multi-touch option, FHD resolution (1920 x 1080 pixels), support for 100% of the sRGB color range and Gorilla Glass protection.

You can equip up to 16 GB of memory LPDDR4X RAM and a 256 GB PCIe 3.0 SSD for internal storage. It supports Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2 and has USB Type C and Type A ports, HDMI output and fingerprint reader. It has stereo speakers, dual microphones and HD webcam. Comment that without being an ultralight, its dimensions are quite contained, 313 x 224 x 21 mm for a weight of 1.4kg. Comes with USB Type-C power adapter up to 65W.

With the latest version of Google’s Chrome OS operating system, the Vero 514 Chromebook will be available in the United States in October and in other regions such as Europe it will arrive in November with a starting price of €599.

Earthion Program

As environmental issues become more pressing, Acer urges more partners and suppliers to join forces to reduce harmful impacts on the environment and save valuable resources by transitioning to the circular economy. Precisely because of the growing number of natural disasters that climate change is causing around the world, collective and constructive action is needed to address the urgency of the problem, says the company.

To do this, it has shared the progress it is making in its Earthion sustainability program with the following highlights:

  • Acer says it is working with manufacturing partners, including Compal and Quanta, to reduce the use of plastic bags and security tape on packaging to help reduce unnecessary waste.
  • The company expects that 100% of its operations will use renewable energy by 2035.
  • Acer calls for more partners and suppliers to join the Earthion mission to amplify its positive impact on the environment.
  • Acer extends its CDP Supply Chain to three supplier ranges.
  • Innovations in smart city solutions help reduce carbon footprints and promote sustainable housing.
  • Acer’s 21-Day Challenge helps expand the program and build green habits.
  • Acer Chromebook Vero 514 is the latest addition to the Vero line of eco-friendly devices, which includes notebooks, desktop PCs, monitors, projectors and accessories.

Acer believes that sustainability is a global effort that needs all possible support to make a difference. Not only does it aim to offer consumers the opportunity to choose more environmentally friendly products, but it also wants to empower companies to join in their transition to low carbon emissions and the circular economy. We have seen a good advance in the Acer Green Day.
