I recreated the “Ryzen Allrounder”. When I plug in my 25 year old IBM Model M keyboard, the computer sometimes doesn’t recognize the keyboard.

I built the PC building proposal “Ryzen Allrounder” from c’t 24/2019. The computer has been running stably for two years, only one thing bothers me: I connected a 25-year-old IBM Model M keyboard to the PS/2 port of the PC. If I start the computer after the power was off, the keyboard is not recognized, if I restart it, it works perfectly. Another PS/2 keyboard does not show this behavior. Can you explain the behavior and can it be changed?

It’s likely that your historical keyboard is just spending too much time initializing after turning on the power. As a workaround, consider getting a PS/2 to USB adapter for a few bucks. Maybe that solves the problem. This would also have the advantage that you can continue to use the keyboard on future computers that will probably no longer have a PS/2 socket.
