Microsoft this week released a new update for the Photos app in Windows 11 adding extra features for users and general improvements in the stability and functioning of the platform. According to information, this update was released only for the Insider channel (Dev and Canary) and may reach the stable version of the operating system in the coming weeks.

As highlighted by the developer on its website, the new version brings a new slideshow experience with more options for transitions, animations and 25 original music soundtracks to choose from. The update also includes the possibility of starting the presentation by clicking on any photo.

There’s also the reintroduction of the timeline scroll bar in the All Photos, OneDrive, and iCloud Photos gallery views, which groups photos by year and month. The return of this tool improves navigation allowing you to easily find images taken on any date or period.

Another significant novelty is the improvement of the Spot Fix function that allows you to efficiently remove spots or unwanted areas in your photo automatically. To get these new features and fixes, update your Photos app to version number 2023.11050.2013.0 or higher.

Check out more news below:

  • Auto Enhance is now available to use without the need to install the 93MB add-on.
  • When importing photos from external devices, you can now drag and drop to choose the desired photos and use quick toggle to confirm which files have been selected.
  • Hidden iCloud Photos will no longer be displayed in the gallery.
  • Fixed an issue where audio in video files was muted by default. The app now plays audio by default and persists user settings across all videos.
  • Copying and pasting a photo from the Photos app into Outlook and Teams now inserts the image inline by default instead of adding an attachment.
  • Multiple photo selection: hold down the SHIFT key while selecting photos in the gallery now selects multiple consecutive photos in a row; holding down the CTRL key selects multiple non-consecutive photos.
