At its annual Go/Get 2022 event, Uber Technologies, the company behind the popular ride-hailing app, announced its latest developments.

The company’s announcements focus on the reinvention of this service, which emerged in 2009, in the face of the post-pandemic scenario.

Uber’s strategy two years after the pandemic

The event of Uber, developed in a virtual way, compiled the new initiatives of the company, projected in different execution periods.

Expanding on the initial scope of its proposal, a collaboration was announced with US Coachways, a major American car rental company, which provides access to private cars and buses, for use on tourist excursions, weddings or similar events. Called Uber Charter, this feature will allow hosts to provide details about their event, leaving it up to guests — via invitation vouchers — to choose their departure point and start time.

The company is committed to becoming an emission-free company by 2040. Under this line, the Uber Comfort Electric service was announced, dedicated to requesting trips in premium electric vehicles, from brands such as Tesla or Polestar.

Another announced feature, Uber Travel, puts its spotlight on business travelers, making it easier to book rides days in advance to help balance supply and demand amid the driver crisis. For this, the platform will allow sharing details about upcoming trips, such as flight schedules, hotel reservations and dinner reservations, to have all the factors of the agenda synchronized.

As for Uber Eats, two important news were announced. One is related to the implementation of delivery robots autonomous, set up in collaboration with Serve Robotics; and the other is a food purchase and delivery system in stadiums, thanks to an alliance with Postmates.

Due to the nature of these new services, a large part of them will initially be deployed in the United States, always with the projection of expanding to other markets.

Outside of the services incorporated into Uber, the arrival of a new feature in the Uber Eats app is striking. It is about the possibility of ordering food through voice commands. Integrating with the Google Assistant, it will be enough to order food by speaking, so that the application does its thing and the food arrives in moments.

The global geopolitical context has strongly influenced fuel prices, having a strong impact on the provision of services such as those of Uber, which has recently faced a drop in drivers. For this reason, to face the crisis, the company decided to bet on these novelties.
