The tablet Amazon Fire 7 revolutionized the industry in 2019 when it offered prices of just over $80 for an Android tablet. In 2022 it has done it again with the Amazon Fire 7 (2022), with an improved processor, more memory and more space than its 2019 version.
We are talking about a tablet with storage up to 32GB, with the option to increase to 1TB with microSD. It has a 2GHz quad-core CPU and just 2GB of RAM, but that’s more than enough to watch videos and run streaming apps. It is not a gaming tablet, of course, but I prefer to watch movies and series with the Amazon Fire 7 than with my mobile, there is no doubt about that.
It is available for 79.99 euros already in Spain.
Technical characteristics of the Amazon Fire 7 (2022)
As an operating system it has Fire OS 8based on Android 11, and its battery lasts up to 10 hours of mixed use, with a 5 W charge. In connectors, as you can see in the photos, we have USB 2.0 (Type-C) and 3.5mm audio.
The cameras are nothing to write home about, one 2MP rear and one 2MP front, enough for video conferences. That said, it is not an impressive tablet for its hardware, but its price is really striking.
The screen is 7 inches1024 x 600 IPS LCD, and its size is 180.68 x 117.59 x 9.67 mm, weighing 282 g.
Of course, it is compatible with WiFi 5 and Bluetooth 5.
Improvements over the Amazon Fire 7 (2019)
The previous Fire 7 was already a big step in the sector, since it managed to enter homes at a very low price, offering multimedia and integration with Amazon services.
Now it does it again with the following improvements:
– USB-C charging.
– The battery lasts 40% longer, reaching the 10 hours.
– The processor it’s 30% faster, so the apps open faster and there is an improvement in video playback. There is also a notable improvement if you use basic games, nothing very complex in 3D, since, I repeat, it is not a tablet designed for high graphic processing capacity.
– It has been optimized for video calls in landscape mode. For this they use the 2 MP front and rear cameras with 720p HD video recording. I have tried it with the cover that you see in the photos, which helps to make video calls without having to use your hands to hold the tablet.
– The design is thinner and lighter, although large margins are still noticeable if we compare them with other tablets. The idea is that it withstands daily wear and tear, in fact it is twice as resistant as the last iPad Mini in drop tests. Personally I don’t like the design at all, but it fulfills its objective.
– The new operating system supports Android dark mode for certain applications, such as Kindle.

Conclusions
For 79.99 euros you cannot buy a low-end mobile, so it is clear that its forte is the price. Is a rugged tablet that will allow us to make video calls, buy, watch videos and enjoy music, something that we usually do with the mobile, but that we can do with the Fire 7 to save battery life on the smartphone and enjoy the content on a larger screen.
That is the use I give it. I have stopped watching streaming from my mobile and have started making video calls from the Fire 7, giving a break to a mobile that cost me ten times more. It is also more practical to get lost in TikTok or Reels using a 7-inch tablet than a mobile one.
I did not like the reading experience. When the text is small, it is noticeable that there is not enough resolution. It is not a tablet to spend hours reading articles, of course, unless we use the included Kindle app and increase the font size (although for that I use the Kindle reader that I love so much). Internet browsing is also not very smooth, but it improves if we compare it with the 2019 version.
I am very used to using the Google Play Store, but in the Amazon app store it is possible to find practically all the apps I need. Not all the apps or games from the Play Store are there, but they can be installed directly using the APK file (I don’t recommend it either, since threats can get in or there may not be enough processor to run them). The gaming experience on the Fire 7 hasn’t been very good, removing Candy Crush and little else, but to play I already have the Xiaomi PAD 5 or the Xbox… each thing to its own thing.
Whichever way you look at it, it’s a good buy for its price, especially if you want a rugged, portable device for watching videos and making video calls.
