Google Messages is preparing to integrate a function that could help us whenever we don’t have the ready answer. Yes, because with Magic Compose – this is the name of the upcoming novelty – artificial intelligence will write for us proposing some solution elaborated on the basis of the content of the conversation.

We could define this tool as an updated and more powerful version of Smart Reply – feature that made its debut in 2016 – or a more variant frivolous of “Help me write” on Google Docs. Basically, AI helps us in two different ways:

  • starting to write the message: the image of a pencil with a small star will appear next to the send icon, clicking on it Magic Compose will take our incipit to complete the sentence
  • writing the message from scratch: the AI will analyze the context from the entire conversation to create a response from scratch

In both cases it will be possible to choose the style of the response, for example between chill (Freddo), Excited (excited), Formal (formal) and even Lyricalpoetic style.

The function will be accessible by clicking on the icon of your account in Messaging > Messaging Settings > Tips. It is labeled as “Experiment” as it is still in the testing phase. As can be seen from the first of the three screenshots above, the note underlines that only the user can see the suggestions before they are actually sent. In addition, Magic Compose suggestions are generated on Google serverstherefore unlike the other types of suggestions to take advantage of them a network connection is required.
