Capcom announced a new game in the Street Fighter franchise, called Street Fighter: Duel. Contrary to what players are used to, it will not have the traditional fighting style and will be a free-to-play mobile RPG.
Street Fighter: Duel is the result of a collaboration between Capcom and Crunchyroll, with the latter describing it as the first RPG in the franchise, but making it clear that it will bring familiar elements from the series.
Crunchyroll is considered the biggest name when it comes to anime outside of Japan. Previously, she also worked on other mobile games from famous franchises such as My Hero Academia and Naruto.
The trailer shows the hero Ryu in a dark vortex, with some arcade music and sounds from the company playing, while preparing his iconic Hadoken. There are also appearances by other classic characters, such as Chun-Li, Ken and Blanka.
At the end of the video, it is mentioned that the game already accepts pre-registrations on Android and IOS. Despite looking exciting, the trailer doesn’t offer any details about the gameplay or story. On the official Crunchyroll website, it is mentioned that players will travel the globe to recruit and gain levels with iconic characters from the Street Fighter franchise.
Despite being announced as the first RPG game in the Street Fighter series, it is worth noting that Street Fighter: The Storytelling Game was released in 1994 and was an RPG with mechanics from the White Wolf’s World of Darkness games.
