Since the split of iPadOS as a separate system from iOS, their releases have usually been in parallel.

Now, on the verge of the arrival of a new version of the mobile operating system for Apple devices, the company confirmed that its equivalent version for the iPad will arrive out of date.

iPadOS 16 will not arrive alongside iOS 16

Apple has decided to delay the release of ‌iPadOS 16‌, in order to continue working on resolving bugs and other issues with the Stage Manager feature, which is coming to iPad M1 models.

This decision was confirmed in Apple’s conversations with TechCrunch, to which the company revealed that there will be no version of iPadOS 16.0 present in the next iOS release. “This is an especially important year for iPadOS. As your own platform with features designed specifically for iPad, we have the flexibility to deliver iPadOS on your own schedule. This fall, iPadOS will ship after iOS, as version 16.1 in a free software update.the company stated.

According to what the same company has described, this future update will provide the system interface with the ability to reappear the side rail of the Stage Manager using a gesture, while the function is in full screen.

Although it is not the first time that Apple has made a determination regarding the strict schedule with which they manage their releases and updates, it is still an unusual act for the company. According to developer reports, the newly implemented interface is still riddled with bugs, accumulating complaints about unresolved issues.

It all boils down to Apple skipping the iPadOS 16.0 release this fall and going straight to 16.1. This implies that this will be the first version of iPadOS 16 that will be sent to non-beta users after the arrival of the first version of iOS. It seems likely that the two 16.1 releases will arrive at or around the same time, though Apple hasn’t confirmed the speculation.

Regarding the updated release schedule, Apple released the first beta of an upcoming iPadOS 16.1 update to developers yesterday for testing and debugging purposes. Regarding iOS 16, Apple also published a beta, but through its public channel.
