Apparently there will be a Pro model of the Apple Watch for the first time this year. An overview of what that could mean for the previous model series.

Apple’s edition variant of its computer watch was never entirely undisputed. At first, the group tried to charge up to 18,000 euros for 18-carat gold versions of the Apple Watch, later the edition became cheaper and came onto the market in special materials such as ceramic or titanium. Now the device class could be on the verge of being replaced by a completely new model series, as is currently being discussed in forums and blogs.

Apple is currently selling the current Series 7 in four versions: the regular Apple Watch made of aluminum or stainless steel from 429 euros, the Apple Watch Nike with the Nike Runclub app and exclusive aluminum dials from 429 euros, the Apple Watch Edition in titanium from 829 euros euros and the Apple Watch Hermès in steel with special bracelets and the logo of the luxury brand from 1299 euros. While it is currently not assumed that the cooperation with Hermès will end – it is obviously very lucrative for both companies – the edition seems to be on the brink.

The reason is the new “Apple Watch Pro” intended for extreme sports applications, which is said to be delivered with a 7 percent larger display, an adapted design (which is still unknown) and also a titanium case. The variant is intended to advance into those areas that the edition currently covers, i.e. users who want something more than the regular aluminum and steel versions of the Apple Watch. Apparently Apple is planning a particularly hard Titan, the larger screen should in turn be used to display more tracking values simultaneously during sports.

Apple has been using titanium in the Apple Watch Edition since 2019. In 2016, Apple introduced ceramic models, which were very popular with connoisseurs due to their robust yet light case – especially a variant in a white hue. Apple had already discontinued the golden edition a year after it went on sale. The realization that it is rather pointless to offer expensive gold watches without them being able to receive a technical upgrade had prevailed at Apple – especially since the sales figures are said to have been not very good.

With the “Apple Watch Pro”, Apple would now have the opportunity to further clean up and diversify its watch range. We will find out in autumn whether this is actually the case. It is currently expected that all models of the “Series 8” will be presented in September. There is no information yet on possible prices for the “Pro” – but it can be expected that they will be higher than the current edition. That means if necessary: 1000 euros and more.
