Soro is an app that brings a HomePod-like intercom function to Sonos speakers, devices with features and configurations that resemble Apple’s HomePod. It was launched as a way to extend support for Siri and Apple’s Shortcuts app on Sonos speakers with 24 different useful actions.
Recently, Soro For Sonos received an update that brings the ability to talk to each other and more features that should considerably improve the experience for users, in addition to general improvements in performance and stability.
While integrations like Amazon Alexa’s announce feature work on some Sonos speakers, Soro’s Siri intercom support is good for those who want to maintain a native Apple experience. The new ‘Speak Text’ action from Soro 1.4 also works as an Intercom for Sonos.
This new addition is similar to the intercom available for the HomePod, allowing users to play messages (or media files) on any of their supported Sonos speakers using the text-to-speech features built into iOS, iPadOS and macOS operating systems.
Users can set the voice and language to any of those available on their device (downloaded from the Voices – Spoken Content option in Settings) and adjust pitch and speed as well. In addition to using text to speech, the action can take local or remote media files as input.

Speakers supported with the new talkback feature include: Sonos One, Amp, Port, Play:5 (gen 2), Beam, One SL, Move, SYMFONISK Table Lamp with WiFi, SYMFONISK Shelf with WiFi with All Speakers younger ones using the Sonos S2 system.
