While Microsoft is slowly winding down the Xbox 360’s lifecycle, whether it’s removing some games from the console’s digital store, ending the backwards compatibility program, or focusing more on consoles from the last two generations, many gamers still want to continue enjoying the benefits of the Xbox 360. old games, even on the most current consoles.

Xenia is a powerful emulation project from the same developer that ported Dolphin to Microsoft’s Universal Windows Platform (UWP), which could make Xbox 360 emulation possible on new Xbox Series S/X in the future. next.

Dolphin is a popular emulator that allows you to play Nintendo Wii and Gamecube games on a Windows PC, and to that end, Xenia achieves similar ends to the Xbox 360 games you own. There are already videos showing Xenia running on platforms like PC, Linux and Steam Deck hardware, but another frontier has been opened in the war for game preservation.

Xenia has now been tentatively ported to UWP and therefore modern Xbox consoles are compatible with it. While the compatibility list is currently limited, as the Xenia UWP improves it may eventually allow you to play a much larger library of Xbox 360 games on your Xbox One or Xbox Series X|S console – much larger than the Official Xbox 360 Games Backwards Compatibility List on Xbox One and Series X|S.

Xenia is available on the research project’s official page and on its Github. The site claims that the project initially started when the developer bought some region-locked games in Japan and found he couldn’t play them on his home console.
