Microsoft Edge is getting a new update with important security improvements. Released on Monday (03), version 106 brings few changes with a direct impact on the user experience, but promises to guarantee more protection when browsing sites considered malicious. There are also some new features for professional profiles.

To deliver more security to users, big tech claims to have reprogrammed Edge 106’s entire “Defender SmartScreen” library. This feature works as a filter that defends the computer against phishing attacks, malicious websites, downloading files that may contain viruses, among other cyber threats.

The library changes were not detailed, but it is worth remembering that this is a tool used since Windows 8 in the “deceased” Internet Explorer and early versions of Microsoft Edge, so a major update is essential at this point.

Such security improvements are limited to the native version of the browser for Windows, as Defender SmartScreen is managed within Microsoft’s own operating system. On the other hand, the new version fixes a security flaw cataloged as “CVE-2022-41035” as “Moderate” on all platforms.

For professional users using the enterprise version of Edge, the update doubles the amount of job results displayed in the address bar to 4 recommendations.

According to Microsoft, the new slash behavior “gives you greater visibility into the work content available to you as you search.” The “AddressBarMicrosoftSearchInBingProviderEnabled” policy must be enabled by the IT manager of the organization where you work.

There are also two new policies that enable Efficiency Mode: “EfficiencyModeEnabled” and “EfficiencyModeOnPowerEnabled”, with the latter enabling the feature only when the handheld is connected to power.

Microsoft Edge is the third most used browser in the world, and it has gained the upper hand against Mozilla Firefox in recent months, but there is still a big difference against the biggest browsers in the world — Google Chrome and Apple Safari.
