Not knowing other languages can be a barrier to fully enjoying some content on TikTok, and while some creators include subtitles, these aren’t always available.

TikTok gradually introduces the option to generate subtitles for your videos in several languages, including Spanish

Hence, the novelty recently announced by TikTok is especially useful and consists of a variety of accessibility tools, among which the real-time translation of videos into different languages.

These tools are the result of this platform becoming aware of its great international success, which could be even greater if all the viewers with a language different from that of so many viral videos could understand their content. To this end and after activating the corresponding option, the images will automatically appear superimposed on the video images. subtitles with translation to the chosen language.

The first languages available in TikTok’s real-time machine translation options are German, Mandarin Chinese, Korean, Spanish, Indonesian, English, Italian, Portuguese, and Turkish.

In addition to this option, TikTok has incorporated another very useful function that also helps understand languages other than its own: the translation of labels and texts that appear on the screen. Beyond the voice of the protagonists of the video, sometimes the context is provided by labels or texts that are shown on the screen and whose meaning cannot be known if the language is ignored.

These options expand the possibilities that already appeared in the summer of 2021 and that allowed TikTok videos to show automatic subtitles but only in the same language that the protagonists of the video speak. It was a function that helped people with hearing difficulties, but now it has gone a step further by adding the translation of voice and text into other languages.

TikTok has also clarified that the rollout of the entry into operation of these options will be gradual and is in its initial stages so that over the next few weeks all users will be able to access these functions in the different available languages.
