Qualcomm must bet on the Snapdragon 8cx Gen 4 as its new top-of-the-line processor for notebooks and other mobile devices. According to rumors released this Monday (08), the American manufacturer would be testing different configurations for this platform, and one of them promises to be faster than the Apple M2.
After its low performance has disappointed in preliminary tests, new rumors shared by Twitter leaker Revegnus indicate that the Snapdragon 8cx Gen 4 is still in the optimization phase, and one of the tested configurations he would be able to outperform the multi-core Apple M2 by about 13%.

Revegnus claims that the current Snapdragon 8cx Gen 4 configuration tested by Qualcomm scores 1,300 points in single-core and 10,000 points in multi-core in Geekbench 5.
The Snapdragon 8cx Gen 4’s alleged single-core score is lower than that of the Apple M2, which can top 1,900 points on the same benchmark platform, but its advantageous 12-core configuration (vs. core is far superior to Apple’s processor, which rarely exceeds 9,000 points.
A previous leak suggests that the Snapdragon 8cx Gen 4 will have a CPU clocked at 3.0GHz on the eight high-performance cores and 2.3GHz on the four high-efficiency cores. The Adreno 740 GPU, which also powers the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, would be clocked at 1.0GHz. It is worth noting that the Apple M2 has only four high-performance cores running at 3.49 GHz.
According to Revegnus, Qualcomm’s goal is to make the Snapdragon 8cx Gen 4 reach a performance equivalent to 1,800 points in single-core in Geekbench 5. This score is similar to the performance achieved by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, although the mobile platform line tops have peaks of 5 thousand points in the same benchmark.
To reach new performance records, it is possible that Qualcomm will use its new Oryon CPU in the Snapdragon 8cx Gen 4. This technology is developed by engineers at Nuvia, a company acquired by Qualcomm for US$ 1.4 billion in 2021.
