Wear OS It is a version of the Android operating system that is specially designed for the best smart watches and other wearables. Through this platform, smartwatches can do all kinds of functions, such as receiving and sending messages, downloading music from Spotify, checking social networks, and more.

With the launch of the Pixel Watch, Google will put more effort into Wear OS to deliver a satisfying user experience.

Google has just officially announced that Wear OS will receive a new version every year to optimize the operating system. The news has been revealed by Björn Kilburn, director of product management for Wear OS.

The manager stressed that the system will be renewed year after year to be more competent and offer better functions to users. This so that the smartwatch does not have to depend on the mobile, but is self-sufficient.

Every owner of a Wear OS device will get a massive system update every year. The process will be the same as for mobile phones, which update their firmware significantly annually.

So far, the upcoming versions of Wear OS are unknown. It’s unclear if it will come as a 4.0, 3.5, etc. update, as it did this year with the Samsung Galaxy Watches and the Pixel Watch. The reason for this decision could be that Google aims to make the latest Android features part of smart watches to achieve true integration.

As for the speed of the implementation of the new versions in the watches, everything will depend on the manufacturers and the decisions they make at this point. Finally, Google stated that Wear OS 3 enhancements are expected on smartwatches powered by the Wear 4100 and 4100+ chipset. They also highlighted that they are more committed than ever to Wear OS to bring to life an integrated, intelligent, independent and productive ecosystem.
