Those who have followed the cycle of rumors about next-generation iPhones closely will have witnessed a phenomenon that is very common in the Apple world – in the initial stages it seems that there will be some significant news, which is then cut and delayed as spends time. This year it happened with i capacitive keys, which should have replaced, at least on the Pro models, the traditional physical ones for volume and ignition. According to Mark Gurman of Bloomberghowever, there is a good chance that it will be discussed again next year.

Gurman is one of the most reliable sources when it comes to indiscretions about Apple, and he was one of the last who had not yet expressed his opinion on the question of the postponement of the capacitive keys. Over the weekend, the journalist finally confirmed in turn that the launch on the iPhone 15 Pro (and Pro Max, or Ultra) will not take place, and believes that Apple will try again next year. Gurman didn’t elaborate that much, but at this point it’s worth remembering that according to another extremely reliable source, TF Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple would have encountered “technical difficulties” in implementing the technology that it could not solve in time for mass production, which is now imminent.

Apparently Apple would be preparing a decidedly sophisticated and refined solution for capacitive keys, which would even include a dedicated Taptic Engine (the vibration motor) for each button and a specific chip for their control. Furthermore, a design change is expected for the volume keys, which instead of two separate ones would become one.

It is worth mentioning that the new iPhone Pro should still introduce a noteworthy change in the layout of the keys: the mute slider should turn into a button pressable. It is theorized that this key could be user programmable with different actions to choose from, a bit like on the Apple Watch Ultra. For the rest, the big news should be the new generation SoC on the Pros (the two regular models should instead adopt those of the current Pros, thus remaining a generation behind) and the transition to Dynamic Island for the entire range.
