Nexeya, the French subsidiary of the armaments company Hensoldt AG, has been the victim of a cyber attack. The publicly traded company published a mandatory announcement late Thursday of this week, according to which the ongoing operations of Nexeya are affected.
The company also announced that both data centers in France at Nexeya were affected by the cyber attack on the IT infrastructure. A considerable amount of data was probably tapped and systems were encrypted.
Clean-up work has begun
In cooperation with the responsible authorities, a comprehensive investigation into the incident was initiated immediately. A working group is working with internal and external experts to assess the origin and extent of the attack.
At the same time, work was being carried out at full speed to restore operations as quickly as possible. According to the current state of knowledge, the data and IT infrastructure of other companies in the Hensoldt Group are not affected.
According to media reports, the attack on the Hensoldt subsidiary began last Friday and went unnoticed until the beginning of this week. Insiders have said that the Russian cyber gang REvil is behind the cyber attack. Political motives are therefore also conceivable. Hensoldt and its subsidiaries produce armaments and electronic components such as sensors and radar systems. These could also be used in Ukraine. According to insider information, a ransom demand has not yet been received.
According to Russian information, the criminal organization REvil was allegedly broken up earlier this year. However, malware surfaced in May this year suggests that the cybergang is back in action.
On yesterday’s trading day, Hensoldt’s report caused a price slide of five and a half percent. The armament electronics manufacturer thus occupied last place in the SDax at the close of the stock market.
