The billionaire philanthropist and founder of Microsoft, bill Gatesreceived a foldable smartphone Galaxy Z Fold 4 directly from the President of the samsungLee Jae-Yong, on a recent visit to South Korea.
Gates revealed the news in a new session of the Reddit AMA (ask me anything). Last year, the billionaire revealed he wore a Galaxy Z Fold 3 as your personal cell phone together with a portable PC and that has strengthened its relationship with Samsung.
As you’d expect, Gates’ day-to-day use involves various Microsoft apps and Outlook (as a Gmail alternative) on his Galaxy Z Fold 4. The fact that the Galaxy Z Fold devices transform into a tablet seems to have appealed to Gates.
While some might be thrilled that Bill Gates uses a Samsung smartphone, even though Microsoft also makes an Android device (the Surface Duo), it’s actually not that surprising when you dig deeper.
When Satya Nadella took over as CEO of Microsoft in 2014, he shifted the company’s focus from hardware to software services that run on all popular operating systems, including Android.
Microsoft also has a partnership with Samsung, which sees recently launched smartphones pre-loaded with the company’s various apps and we can expect the two companies to continue to strengthen their partnership for years to come.

What about the Surface Duo 2? Bill Gates says he uses a Galaxy Z Fold 3 instead of Microsoft’s foldable
Microsoft announced the Surface Duo 2 in September 2021 as its foldable to compete in this market with the Galaxy Z Fold 3, but recently Bill Gates, former head of the Redmond company, said that he opts for the competition at this time, using the foldable from Samsung.
The unexpected response was given by Bill Gates when asked by a Reddit user on May 19. In the publication Gates said:
I have an Android Galaxy Z Fold 3. I test different models. With this screen I have a great portable PC and the phone and nothing else.
Although it seems strange, it is understandable that the former Microsoft boss opts for Samsung’s foldable, which has superior hardware to the Surface Duo 2. In addition, it is worth remembering that the South Korean has a partnership with Microsoft integrating its services such as OneDrive and My Phone to connect Windows computers to your smartphones.
Unfortunately, there is still no forecast for the launch of the Surface Duo 3, but it is highly likely that Bill Gates will test the Galaxy Z Fold 4 first, after all, it should be announced in the third quarter of 2022.
