Battery-powered vacuum cleaner Samsung Bespoke Jet in the test: Expensive like Dyson – and better in one detail Samsung is attacking market leader Dyson head-on with the battery-powered vacuum cleaner Bespoke Jet and giving the device highlights such as a suction station. Not everything is perfect. 5:04 p.m. tech stage

Samsung is attacking market leader Dyson head-on with the Bespoke Jet cordless vacuum cleaner and giving the device highlights such as a suction station or a brush head with two rollers – but not everything is perfect.

The predecessor Samsung Jet 90 (test report) convinced us with great handling, good quality, great suction power and exciting accessories such as a suction station. However, you had to buy it separately there and it was also standing around separately in addition to the main stand for vacuum cleaners and vacuum accessories. With the successor Samsung Bespoke Jet, the manufacturer started at this point and now integrates the suction station into the stand – the accessories such as brushes and nozzles are still stored separately. What else has happened with the new model, we show in the test.

There are also different equipment lines for the new Bespoke Jet from Samsung, which differ in the accessories supplied. The cheapest option is the Bespoke Jet Pet in white, it comes with a dual brush, sofa brush head, flexible 90 degree angle, extendable crevice tool, 2-in-1 brush, a rechargeable battery and the stand for the accessories. The more expensive Complete Extra version comes in green and also comes with the Slim Action Brush, a pure hard floor brush, and a second battery. The most expensive Pro Extra version (Blue) replaces the hard floor brush with the spinning sweeper for mopping. The RRPs are a whopping 1149, 1249 and 1399 euros. In addition to manuals, two dust containers for the suction station are also included.

At first glance, the design of the vacuum cleaner has not changed that much compared to its predecessor. Samsung is back to the pistol grip design with the dust container on top and no “trigger” on the grip. Instead, like the predecessor, there are buttons that can be operated with the thumb: on/off, plus and minus. In contrast to the Dyson V15 Detect (test report) , a button does not have to be constantly pressed during operation. Our blue test device is actually only blue in two places: on the edges of the dust container on the vacuum cleaner and on the body of the suction station. However, this is not a bright blue, but rather a pastel shade. The rest is kept in a dignified anthracite.

Overall, the Bespoke Jet has the same good processing quality compared to its predecessor and its shade of higher quality. The fact that even with such an expensive vacuum cleaner not everything is completely wobble-free due to the frequent use of plastic is annoying on the one hand, but it is no different with the competition. On the other hand, plastic also makes the vacuum cleaner comparatively light and therefore handy: the Bespoke Jet weighs just 2.7 kg. The intake manifold is primarily made of metal. Great: As with its predecessor, it can be adjusted in length and the vacuum cleaner is therefore equally suitable for both small and large people. Too bad: Like the predecessor, the suction cup only fits on the stand when the telescopic tube is retracted. Strange that Samsung hasn’t changed that as well.

While the vacuum itself is quite similar to its predecessor, the stand has been completely redesigned for easy and convenient storage in a corner of a room or in a broom closet. As already indicated, this is no longer a pure stand. Instead, a combination of stand and the suction device called Clean Station, which can be purchased separately from the predecessor, is used. A cylinder, which is around 63 centimeters high and around 17 centimeters wide and contains the actual suction device, sits enthroned on a round base. The vacuum cleaner is simply hooked into the cylindrical device with the dust container on top and is safely stowed away there. The suction tube nestles seamlessly against a shape of the suction station, an installed brush head then hangs partially under the cylinder. For this purpose, the suction station only stands on a single foot, which leaves enough space for the brush head coming diagonally from behind. Overall, this design gives the entire device the impression that the suction cylinder is floating – chic and high-quality. Held in this way, the Bespoke Jet charges automatically via contacts without having to plug in an extra cable somewhere.

The back of the suction station made of plastic is held magnetically to the body by means of inlays. Underneath, the user will not only find another plastic plate behind which the station’s dust bag is located, but also illustrated instructions on how to change the bag. The suction takes place at the push of a button, the corresponding button is attached to the back at the top edge of the cylinder. It ends either by pressing a button again or automatically after a few seconds. The placement of the button on the back is our biggest criticism: it remains hidden from the user when they set up the suction and storage station in such a way that they can easily remove the suction cup from the front and put it back in the holder. In addition, he then neither sees the display of the vacuum cleaner,

Because the stand of the vacuum cleaner has now become a suction station, there is a lack of storage options for accessories such as additional brush heads or various nozzles. For this, Samsung includes a not quite knee-high stand in the scope of delivery, which holds all the accessories and can be taken into the rooms to be cleaned thanks to the carrying handle at the top. In contrast to its predecessor, the Jet 90, the second battery is no longer charged – which is impractical. This means that the second battery should be downgraded to replacement for most users if the first one shows signs of fatigue at some point.

Apart from that, the Bespoke Jet proved to be extremely handy in the test, since the weight is not excessively high and the dual-brush brush head is very mobile. So you can also vacuum under a sofa when tilted 90 degrees to the side. The vacuum cleaner has a total of four power levels, and there is no automatic carpet or dirt detection. In operation, the calculated remaining runtime is given in minutes, which in our experience comes pretty close to reality. The cordless vacuum cleaner indicates a running time of 42, 24, 14 and 9 minutes for the Min, Mid, Max and Jet suction levels. That’s a little less than the predecessor and less than the Dyson V15 (test report), but sufficient for everyday use. This not only applies because a second battery is included, but also because the lowest power level is easily sufficient on hard floors.

In everyday life, we therefore only use this lowest level on tiles and laminate, on carpets mostly the second, rarely the third and almost never the fourth level. At the latest with the second battery, cleaning 240 square meters is no problem. The charging time is around 3.5 hours, unfortunately with the new model this only works in the vacuum cleaner, which then has to hang on the station. The predecessor Jet 90 also charges the unused second battery in the accessory stand.

The included accessories are convincing – with the exception of the spinning sweeper, which is included with our test sample. Since the two rotating mops have to be constantly cleaned by hand, we hardly see any work being made easier here. If you want wiping to be as easy as vacuuming, you should take a look at the vacuum wipers with fresh and waste water tanks that we have tested .

On the other hand, we are convinced of the suction station. In the design section we have already addressed the problem that the button for the suction, the display and the colored LED on the battery are facing away from the user and these indicators for the battery charge can therefore not be seen. The suction itself, on the other hand, works perfectly. After pressing the button, the 500 ml dust container is folded down and the dirt is removed with rhythmic suction processes. It is not particularly loud and the user does not come into contact with the dust – this should be an advantage for allergy sufferers in particular. The rest are just happy with less effort. The Samsung Bespoke Jet undoubtedly sucks in enough dust and other dirt during work. In the test there was no dirt, which the teat would not have inhaled easily. With the dual-brush brush attachment for carpets and hard floors, it not only removes deep-seated dirt, but thanks to the bristle roller it even removes animal hair surprisingly well. A noticeable or visible difference to the currently most expensive Dyson model, the very strong one V15 Detect (test report) does not exist.

However, the Dual Brush sometimes has problems with “heavier” dirt. If you want to vacuum up a pile of dirt or several balls of hair, it can happen that the double brush pushes the dirt in front of you. The reason seems to be that the front hard floor roller is not motor-driven and only rotates through the suction movement that the user makes by pushing the vacuum cleaner. That’s not enough to give the dirt enough twist to the motorized main brush. In addition, the front brush closes off the suction area quite well, which means that only very small dirt, such as sand, can reach the main brush without any problems. In our opinion, this small design flaw is not serious and users should not have any problems with it in everyday use.

The RRPs for the three equipment variants Pet, Complete Extreme and Pro Extra are a hefty 1149, 1249 and 1399 euros.

Conclusion

Wow, that’s another real highlight on the cordless vacuum cleaner market. It also doesn’t bother that the vacuum cleaner itself has hardly been further developed and the dual brush is not perfect in all situations. The suction station alone, which we already found in the predecessor Samsung Jet 90 (test report)thought it was great, even if it had to be purchased separately there, the Bespoke Jet is now even more practical. Because the integration into the storage stand, on which the vacuum cleaner now only has to be placed for loading and emptying without any further manipulation, is almost ingenious. Almost, because there is now no more space for the accessories and the user can neither see the control button nor the display of the vacuum cleaner or the LED display on the battery due to the chic shape of the suction station – but there is always something. All in all, the Samsung Bespoke Jet is a top cordless vacuum cleaner that doesn’t have to hide from any other model on the market. However, Samsung can also pay a decent price for this.

We have tested other, mostly cheaper cordless vacuum cleaners here . If you prefer to wipe with ease, you should take a look at the vacuum wipers we have tested . On the other hand, vacuum and floor mopping robots, whose tests we have summarized here, vacuum and wipe completely automatically.
