Again? Apple receives new millionaire fine for selling iPhones without charger in Brazil

The Procon of Florianópolis, in Santa Catarina (SC), fined apple in BRL 8 million for not selling iPhones with you porters. That this is not the first time that Apple has been notified by consumer protection bodies for the same reason.

According to Procon de Florianópolis, the company was notified several times throughout 2022 by the body to clarify and provide the number of devices sold since November 2020, but Apple did not respond to requests.

The Apple stated that it is not possible to detail the exact number of goods sold in the region and also stressed that the removal of the loaders is due to an international policy adopted by the company that seeks to “benefit the environment”.

The company also said that there was no harm to the consumer, of tying or abusive practice.. Procon also asked that Apple include an adapter with new cell phones sold online or in partner (physical) stores in the region.

Apple’s statements were rejected by the Santa Catarina body, which pointed out that the action is illegal according to the technical notes of the National Consumer Secretariat (Senacon) and based on national decrees.

“Currently, the largest companies in the cell phone sector in Europe sell their products in fractions, forcing consumers to purchase, separately, an essential item for the regular functioning of the same in view of the use and custom of consumers, under the pretext of sustainability, without demonstrating evidence of such a reduction in electronic waste. The estimated increase in the company’s revenue due to the “savings” of not making it available is more than US$6 billion, globally”, commented the director of Procon de Florianópolis, Alexandre Farias Luz.
