Xiaomi and Leica: the alliance is official, first smartphone in July
Xiaomi And Leica confirmed the rumors of recent months: the first top range of the Chinese manufacturer equipped with a photographic sector created together with the well-known camera brand will arrive in July this year. They communicate it with an official note released today:
Xiaomi and Leica share the same ideas on mobile imaging. Both are eager to continually explore optical performance and photographic experience in the age of mobile imaging through extreme technological innovations and aesthetic research. […] The first smartphone with a top-of-the-range imaging compartment jointly developed will be officially launched in July this year.
For the moment neither Xiaomi nor Leica provide confirmations on the name of the smartphone, but the clues that emerged previously go in the direction of the Xiaomi 12 Ultra. It should be emphasized that we are speaking expressly of a long-term cooperation so the smartphone arriving in July will be the first in a series set to grow in the future.
For Leica it is not the first collaboration with a smartphone manufacturer – it previously concluded partnerships with Huawei and Sharp – and Xiaomi is not the only company to develop the camera sector of its smartphones together with a well-known camera brand – remember the alliances of Vivo, Sony and Nokia with Zeiss and those of Oppo and Vivo with Hasselblad.
Xiaomi’s CEO, Lei Jun, for now only points out that this cooperation will give a strong impetus to Xiaomi’s imaging strategy. As for the Xiaomi 12 Ultra data sheet, official details are missing, but recently the unofficial one has emerged in which the recently launched Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ SoC also stands out.
