Xiaomi, the clamshell folding looks like a Pixel 6

In addition to the successor to its MIX Fold booklet, rumors have been telling us for some time that Xiaomi is also working on another foldable, cheaper, and with a clamshell design. And if the patent that emerged last December suggested a first generation Galaxy Z Flip design, the one that has now appeared in the CNIPA (China National Intellectual Property Administration) database always has a familiar look, but this time it recalls Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro instead.

Compared to the first patent, the idea of ​​the photographic compartment placed on the external shell developed horizontally is preserved: the three sensors are welcomed by a raised band that is definitely reminiscent of that of Google’s 2021 smartphones (and which also features Pixel 6a and the next Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro). That of Mountain View is a solution that goes against the trend of the market, and therefore finding it on another project immediately triggers identification.

SELFIE CAM UNDER THE DISPLAY?

For the rest, it should be noted that the lines of Xiaomi’s clamshell folding are softer than those of Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip 3: the Korean giant in fact with the latest generation (and the design should also be kept intact in the next one) has chosen a flatter approach for the outer shell, which instead appears rounded in the Chinese company’s proposal. At the bottom of the device you can see a USB-C port, the main speaker and the tray for the SIM card, while on the right side there are the keys for turning on and adjusting the volume.

The other element of interest, however, is the absence of a hole in the internal display for the selfie cam: since Xiaomi has already employed one camera installed below the display on MIX Fold, it is plausible to assume that this project also includes the same solution.

Xiaomi should soon unveil its first folding clamshell: however, on the fact that the design will correspond to that described in the patent analyzed today, however, we cannot put our hand on fire. This is a possibility, yes, but like all companies, Xiaomi also examines (and patents) different options before choosing on which basis to set the final product.
