2019 Samsung Galaxy Fold is downgraded to quarterly security update cycle

Samsung is downgrading its first foldable phone to a quarterly update cycle. Launched in 2019, the Galaxy Fold is included in the program that delivers three years of updates monthly, and will now receive security and stability improvements only every three monthsnearing the end of its official support.

The manufacturer’s oldest foldable hit the market running Android 9.0, and as was usual from Samsung, the pace of operating system updates for the line was three years — the last version made available for the Galaxy Fold is Android 12 with One UI 4.0. The cell phone should continue to receive patches security by mid-2023.

The same conditions apply to the Galaxy Fold 5G, launched in the same period as its model limited to 4G connection. Both foldable cell phones will receive updates quarterly until, eventually, they are updated every six months before reaching the end of official support for the software.

Samsung also announced the end of support for two mid-range phone models launched in 2018 — Galaxy J7 and Galaxy J6 Plus — which were included in the pace of semi-annual updates.

Other handsets also stopped receiving monthly updates in 2022. The Galaxy S10, S10 Plus, S10e and A50 were downgraded to quarterly shipping. patches android security. In a related note, Samsung released last Tuesday (08) its fixes made with the November security package for Android.
