Rumor: “Apple Watch Pro” with a new design

The extreme sports version of the “Series 8” is said to be larger and comes in a revised look. New sensors remain in short supply.

The Apple Watch Series 8 will be one of Apple’s more exciting product launches this year. That’s what Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman assumes in his most recent newsletter. According to him, at least one version of the next edition of the computer watch will have a revised look: the so-called “Apple Watch Pro”, which in the meantime also ran under the name “Apple Watch Extreme Sports”.

This model should differ from the standard versions of the “Series 8” and according to Gurman, among other things, a display that is up to seven percent larger (to display more sports data at the same time) and a longer battery life – possibly over several days if a new, improved energy saving mode is used use comes. The new look of the “Apple Watch Pro” should retain the current basic shape of the watch – rectangular – and not be round. The long-awaited, angular design is said not to come either. Nevertheless, the optics should differ.

Furthermore, Apple is planning an improved case for extreme sports fans, which should consist of a “more durable titanium formulation” in order to be particularly robust. There is also a sensor for body temperature, which will probably also find its way into the other “Series 8” models. The new look of the “Apple Watch Pro” is said to not please all users and to further segment the available computer watch models. It could be priced at the current edition models that are already available in titanium.

When it comes to body sensors, the Apple Watch of the new series is largely spared from innovations. Except for the “Body Temperature Sensor” mentioned, there should be no other detectors in the watch. According to Gurman, Apple is not planning to automatically record blood pressure before 2025, blood sugar – long awaited and also of interest to athletes – is said to not come before the end of the decade.

Already in the Apple Watch Series 7 from 2021, Apple had not integrated any new sensor, instead only slightly increased the display size. Innovations on the inside were also limited, so Apple used the system-in-package from the Series 6, supplemented by new display drivers. With the “Series 8”, Apple could continue to rely on chip technology from the Series 6, at least according to current fears. The new computer clock is expected in September.
