Mirantis promises: Faster and easier access to the cloud with amazee.io
Cloud specialist Mirantis has taken over amazee.io. This software should enable companies to bring their applications to the cloud more quickly.
The cloud service provider Mirantis has announced the takeover of the company amazee.io. This company specializes in delivering web applications for Kubernetes. Its team developed the cloud-native platform Lagoon for the provision, management, security and operation of applications in the cloud. It is also referred to by the company as the ZeroOPs hub, which is intended to significantly relieve developers, among other things, in operations related to the cloud.
Use of container technology should become easier
Since Mirantis acquired Docker’s enterprise division in 2019, the company’s goal has been to simplify the use of container technology for developers and enterprise customers. Because amazee.io bills itself as a developer-centric software delivery hub for modern applications that takes infrastructure out of the game, this software is a good addition to Mirantis’ portfolio.
amazee.io sees itself as a ZeroOps company. ZeroOps is a NoOps variant. The aim is to automate and abstract the underlying infrastructure so that programmers can focus on creating code that they can then easily and transparently push from their desktops into production.
Open source project Lagoon is the core
The Lagoon open source project is the most important part of amazee.io. It is an Apache 2.0 licensed platform for the provision, management, security and operation of cloud-native applications. It is also available for download on GitHub.
Michael Schmid, CTO of amazee.io, explained in the company’s blog that with Lagoon developers do not have to laboriously learn Kubernetes before they can deploy even one line of code in Kubernetes. He also highlighted that a great benefit of Lagoon is that it runs on Kubernetes and works with popular tools like Helm, Prometheus, Grafana and many others, while developers don’t need any Kubernetes knowledge to do so.
Mirantis will offer amazee.io as part of its existing Kubernetes Lens integrated development environment. The software is said to be available to Lens users now. Users who already have Kubernetes in operation can also use amazee.io with Lagoon-as-a-Service (LaaS). With LaaS you can install the Lagoon Remote Agent in your existing Kubernetes clusters. According to Mirantis, this then only requires a connection between the agent and the Lagoon Core managed by amazee.io in order to use the software.
