iPad and Mac, another manufacturer is courting Apple for the supply of displays
TCL he intends to join the circle of Apple suppliers. The Asian newspaper is sure of it The Elec, which enriches the indiscretion with a trip to Cupertino that would be on the agenda of the CEO – founder Li Dongsheng. The visit, we read on the portal, “probably aimed at obtaining an order for the supply of LCD screens to be used on iPad and MacBook”the sources confessed.
The order would be signed by CSOTacronym for China Star Optoelectronics Technology, company controlled by the TCL group which, we recall, is a very important reality in the global manufacturing industry: in 2020 it employed over 80,000 employees, moving almost 120 billion yuan, about 17 billion euros. TCL, or rather CSOT, is competing with BOE which, on the other hand, is already part of Apple’s suppliers, despite a thousand difficulties.
According to The Elec, BOE is ahead of CSOT both about LCD displays and the more profitable OLEDs that rage on smartphones. And if for the production of the latter it has sometimes failed to cope with the difficulties, making a fool of its own with Apple, on the realization of the former, according to Omdia analysts, in 2022 BOE should be the reference supplier for iPad screens. .
The competition has only one winner, Apple. From Asia they point out that if CSOT’s goal were to go through, the consequences could be LG Display, which would end up involved in a three-way race with BOE for the order at the best conditions (for Apple). Also according to Omdia analysts, LG in 2022 would have a 55% stake in the supply of LCD panels for MacBook.
Apple is not the only goal identified by CSOT / TCL to grow its business. He would like to undermine BOE in the supply of LCDs for Samsung TVs, thus joining the group formed by AUO, Sharp and LG.
