The Pixel 6a’s bootloader isn’t currently unlockable — a bug, Google says. A new update should fix it.
The bootloader of the Pixel 6a should soon be able to be unlocked: According to the magazine Android Police, Google is distributing an update for its latest cell phone that is supposed to unlock the function. The OTA update is currently being distributed to Pixel cell phones, but it hasn’t yet arrived on a reaction cell phone from voonze online.
The fact that the bootloader has not been unlocked so far is a mistake, Google said Android Police. Unlocking the bootloader on affected cell phones fails because the option in the menu is grayed out and cannot be tapped.
Google usually allows users of its cell phones to unlock the bootloaders of their devices. This allows installing custom ROMs or rooting the device. After the new update, this should also be possible on the recently available Pixel 6a.
Pixel 6a vs Pixel 6
The Pixel 6a is Google’s latest phone and costs 460 euros. The 6a is equipped with the same Tensor SoC, consisting of CPU, GPU and Titan M2 security chip, which is also found in the more expensive 6 and 6 Pro. A 5G modem is also integrated.
In Germany, the cell phone is offered with 6 GB of main memory and 128 GB of non-expandable flash memory. There are two cameras on the back: a wide-angle main camera and an additional ultra-wide-angle camera. The Pixel 6a is also similar to the Pixel 6 in this respect, but the 6a uses a different sensor.
In the test of the Pixel 6a by voonze+, the Google cell phone convinced with powerful hardware at a fair price. But it mainly faces competition from its own company: the Pixel 6 is a slightly better cell phone overall and is sometimes offered at similar prices to the Pixel 6a.
