Scientists use AI to analyze the data generated from the study of proteins

There are various uses that artificial intelligence has had today and that have contributed to facilitating tasks in different areas. From photography, through autonomous cars to video games; there is no doubt that artificial intelligence is more present than ever in our lives.

The latest emerging within this technology comes from a team of researchers from the University of Missouri, who are working on the development of new pharmacological therapies focused on the treatment of different pathologies, including cancer.

Named as graphical neural networkthis type of artificial intelligence has tools that can be of great help to scientists by notably reducing the time involved in the big data analytics obtained as a result of study of proteinsspecifically its dynamics.

According to what was expressed by Dong Xu (distinguished professor of the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science of the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Montreal), the procedures carried out under this method are sufficiently efficient to achieve new ways of recognizing the target sites on proteins and thus ensure that drugs take effect more precisely.

Likewise, Xu indicated that with this method it is possible to replicate the changes experienced by the proteins under different conditions, so that from the results their relationship with other functions carried out in the organism can be established.

Added to this, Xu pointed out that in the past drug designers looked at the structure of the protein and identified some points where to focus their therapies.

Through the graphic neural network it is possible to establish a pathway between different parts of the protein, which is very useful for scientists since it allows them to contemplate other destination points to implement their targeted therapies. This action would help increase the possibility of success of the therapy after its application.
