What’s new in Chrome OS for better integration between Android and Chromebook

Google has proposed throughout this year to bring new capabilities that allow better integration between mobile phones under Android and Chromebooks under the slogan “Better together”, as they showed in the past CES 2022 and Google I / O 2022.

In this sense, the Internet search giant has just pointed out the three important new features that will arrive soon under the new version of Chrome OS, the operating system of Chromebooks, which will reach version number 103.

First, The Chrome OS Phone Hub app will be updated to make it possible to access the latest photos taken with your mobile phone. To do this, you will now have the new “recent photos” section where you can display the latest photos taken, simply pressing any of them to download them and use them in any other application on the Chromebook.

This will prevent actions such as sending photos by email from the mobile and then obtaining them from the Chromebook itself. This addition joins other possibilities already available since its launch last year, such as access to phone messages or its settings, among others.

Second is the update of Nearby Share, where in addition to gaining in speed of operation, it adds the possibility of allowing the secure connection of the Chromebook to a WiFi network that is already saved from the Android mobile phone itself.

Google details the operation as follows:

To try it out, go to the Internet settings page on your Android phone, select “Wi-Fi network” and “Sharing”. Then tap the “Near” tile below the QR code and select the Chromebook you want to connect. Near Share will hand over your Wi-Fi credentials (as in network name and password) and your Chromebook will automatically connect to the Wi-Fi network.

FastPair

And third, Fast Pair arrives to do what its name says: fast pairing, orienting itself for the moment towards wireless headphones that connect via bluetoothmaking it easy to connect with a simple touch, leaving behind the cumbersome processes of initial configuration.

Google describes the operation as follows:

Simply turn on Bluetooth on your Chromebook and it will automatically detect when a new pair of Bluetooth headphones is on, nearby, and ready to be set up. A pop-up notification will appear, and with a single tap, your new accessory is connected and ready to go.

In addition to these three important integrations, from Google they also remember the arrival of Screencast to share ideas on the screen, and whose videos will be saved in Google Drive. Basically, Google wants to reach a similar level to the existing integrations between iOS mobiles with Mac computers, and even within the Android mobile segment, not to be left behind with integrations with Windows through the Your Phone application.
