“Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic”: Remake is on hold

A remake of the RPG “Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic” will not be further developed for the time being, reports Bloomberg. We’re talking about internal turbulence.

The remake of the RPG classic “Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic” (“Kotor”) has been postponed indefinitely. According to a report by Bloomberg, the Aspyr development studio is currently deciding how to proceed with the new edition of the “Star Wars” game.

Both the art director and design director were abruptly fired, Bloomberg writes. According to the report, the studio bosses have already informed their employees that Aspyr wants to look for new development contracts.

According to Bloomberg, “Knights of the Old Republic” has been in development at Aspyr for three years and the RPG remake was announced last September. According to the report, Embracer Group, which is involved in the remake alongside Aspyr, could now take over development on its own.

The remake of “Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic” has been announced for the Playstation 5 and the PC. It is being developed from scratch, with modern technology, optics and new features. In the original, the battles were turn-based, but this has largely gone out of fashion in third-person role-playing games. The story should not be changed extensively.

Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic was originally released in 2003 and was developed by Bioware. To this day it is not only considered one of the best role-playing games, but also one of the best “Star Wars” games ever. The title takes place 4000 years before the events of the “Star Wars” films and is currently not officially canon. For the re-development of the RPG classic, Aspyr is said to have hired several industry veterans, including some of those who worked on the original.
