MacBook Pro 13 and MacBook Air 2022: the wait may still be long
A few hours after the departure of the WWDC, waiting to remember for 19:00 today, the rumors about what could be Apple’s plans are not very reassuring, confirming what has emerged in recent days with respect to a substantial delay for the new ones MacBook Air And MacBook Pro 13 2022. The voices are diverse and quite authoritative, starting with Mark Gurman Bloomberg which, in the latest Power On newsletter, clearly states that despite the initial roadmap, the new 13 “MacBook Pro is now far behind for WWDC.
The motivation behind the postponement is always the same: the protracted lockdown in China which now seems to have seriously affected the roadmap of the Cupertino company. Gurman does not mention dates, however confirming that on board will be the long-awaited Apple M2 without the touchbar, all with a design that will not be so different from the 2021 version.
Here’s what the analyst expects from the new MacBook Pro 13:
- Design similar to the previous MacBook Pro
- New colors (dark blue, space gray, silver and champagne gold)
- 13 “display
- Two USB-C ports
- MagSafe
- Touch ID
In stark contrast to what has just been said comes the “discovery” of 9to5Mac relating to the presence of two new Apple devices in the B&H Photo authorized reseller’s price list; the devices in question are precisely the MacBook Pro 13 M2 and the MacBook Air M2. Also in this case confirmations arrive on the design of MacBook Pro 13 M2, similar to its predecessor, without touchbar and with new colors; the M2 SoC in turn will offer 8 CPU cores – 4 high-performance and 4 efficient – paired with a 10-core GPU.
Moving on to the MacBook Air instead, Gurman confirms the debut during the WWDC but at the same time curbs enthusiasm regarding availability immediate or in volumes of the product. The zero-COVID policy of the Chinese government has forced the closure of factories that produce MacBooks, for this reason the actual availability of the MacBook Air M2 is expected to be low or, even worse, the actual launch on the market will be postponed.
More or less in the same vein we find the statements of Ming-Chi Kuo which predicts good sales of the MacBook Air M2 – 6/7 million units in Q3 – surpassing those of the MacBook Pro 14/16. However, this will only happen if Quanta’s production capacity returns to the one before the last lockdown; remember in this regard that MacBook Air M2 will be produced by Quanta and Foxconn, while MacBook Pro only by Quanta.

2H22 shipment forecast of new MBA is 6-7mn units if Quanta’s Shanghai capacity can be back to pre-lockdown level before 3Q22. Delivery for new MBA made by two EMS (Quanta the 1st & Foxconn the 2nd) should be better than existing 14 “/ 16” MacBook Pro (shipped by Quanta only).– 郭明 錤 (Ming-Chi Kuo) (@mingchikuo) June 5, 2022
Speaking of features instead, either Gurman and Ming-Chi Kuo agree that the next MacBook Air will not be available in a wide range of colors, including space gray and silver as well as two novelties that could be dark blue and champagne gold. Gurman then does not rule out a possible 13 “panel, two USB-C ports, MagSafe charging functionality and Touch ID.
