LG Wing: smartphone or console? New life for the square display

LG Wing He represented the last cry of the South Korean smartphone manufacturer. We all know how it ended, there is also no doubt that this device with a double T-screen is rightfully one of the most bizarre representative of the history of the brand. And, paradoxically, the smartphone has been more successful when it was all over compared to when LG was trying to sell it on the market (without getting great results).

For example, there are those who have ventured to separate the two displays of which it is composed to use only the 3.9-inch square one, and there are those who have it turned into a game console, obviously with Android in it. This last experiment is due to a certain Iaozhangpassionate user of modding who first has set free the small display from the rest of the smartphone, and then customized it by integrating it into a case equipped with controller and battery.

The final work is visible in the video below: note the care with which the device was made, even equipped with a cut on the rear body to make room for the Wing’s cameras.

It will be for the compact size, it will be for the form factor, but the 3.9-inch OLED display with 1.15: 1 ratio, 1240×1080 resolution and 419ppi density seems almost perfect for a console from retro gaming. It is just a pity that there are only about fifty units built, and none of these seem to be destined for sale.
