There is something new on the way that will be particularly appreciated by all those who use Google TV on Android. Soon it will be possible to take advantage of the app born from the ashes of Google Film as a real one hub that combines different video streaming platforms.
All in one place, therefore: this is the vision of Google announced at the I / O 2022 event to simplify the experience of users, now inundated with dozens of subscriptions and services to enjoy their favorite TV series, movies or shows. In the app, therefore, they will come shown all the contents scattered for the streaming platforms to which we have access with our account – after initial setup on Google TV, of course. To access it, you will no longer need to navigate between individual apps: just press a button on Google TV to enjoy the content.
Google gives the example of Peacock: by pressing the “Watch on Living Room TV” button the content is immediately transmitted to our TV in the room without us having to do anything else. The Peacock app does not open on our smartphone the TV recognizes the content whose viewing request comes directly from the Google app.
To date, the services that adhere to this useful feature are not yet known. For the moment we have the certainty of Peacock, but we do not know if giants of the caliber of Netflix or Disney Plus will accept this option: comfortable, yes, but only for the user who, at the same time, will tend to frequent each single platform less and less. And this may not be frowned upon by the big video streaming services.
At the moment, there is only one certainty: the integration of the platforms on Google TV will take place “later in 2022“.
