At the same time as the eleventh Feature Drop, Google released on compatible Pixels (from 4 onwards) Android 12 QPR3, the third update of the operating platform which takes place quarterly (Quarterly Platform Release, in fact). It includes the June security patches, and is formally always part of Android 12L or 12.1 released in March.
On the user side, there are not many new features: we can say that the battery widget is easier to find, because it is categorized under the heading Battery instead of something obscure related to the settings as it has been so far. And you can make sure that the vibration icon is always present in the status bar: it had recently been changed to appear only when the notification curtain was expanded.
Apparently, the release of the update completely terminates the Beta program for Android 12, which started last spring after the release of the first Developer Preview. Smartphones included in the program will be able to exit without losing data: just install the final OTA of the QPR3. Or they can go directly to the Android 13 Beta. At this point it is not clear if Android 12 will receive additional QPRs in the future or if it will limit itself to monthly security patches, but let’s say that the closure of the Beta program in its entirety suggests a tendency for the second. hypothesis.
The security patches of June close a total of 41 flaws (23 for those of the 1st and 18 for those of the 5th) related to Android in general, and others 79 specifications for Google devices only (not just security). It is also worth noting that Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL have received what, according to previous promises, is the latest update, despite the official support period has now expired.
