Xiaomi’s electric car takes shape: they have just patented their own Autopilot

Little by little we are getting to know more details of the Xiaomi M1, the first electric car from the Asian manufacturer. This vehicle is expected to hit the market in 2024, although the Chinese company is putting all the meat on the grill to advance the staging of Tesla’s next rival as much as possible.

And now, we just discovered that The Xiaomi M1 will have its own autonomous driving system. An Autopilot in the purest Tesla style and that will allow this vehicle to circulate without a driver.

As can be seen from the latest leaked information about Xiaomi’s first electric car, the Beijing-based manufacturer has just patented an autonomous driving system for its long-awaited EV with which to compete with the fleet of vehicles of the company founded by Elon Musk.

The Xiaomi M1 will have its own Autopilot

We know that the company has increased the staff working on the Xiaomi electric car project in order to comply with its roadmap and launch the brand’s first EV on the market as soon as possible, although as we have told you before, it is planned for 2024. To meet this goal Xiaomi recently opened a second division related to the automotive sector and that has a lot to do with the expected Xiaomi M1. This new division has 13,919 employees only for the R&D (Research and Development) department, so it is clear that Xiaomi’s commitment to its first electric car is total.

According to the Xiaomi new patent the registration has been made through the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA) with model number CN2161848787U, and in the characteristics we see that there is a camera system around the vehicle so that its intelligent system collects information with which to be able circulate autonomously even if no one is behind the wheel.

For it It will have two types of cameras: some first units that will collect information on certain points of the vehicle, while a second group of cameras would be in charge of recording the movements in the rest of the directions.

A system very similar to the one used by the rest of the manufacturers that incorporate some autonomous driving system Like Tesla Autopilot. There is still a long way to go before the Xiaomi Mi1 project becomes a reality, but little by little we are seeing that this electric vehicle is taking shape. And what we have been able to discover so far looks really good.
