Android smartphones Sony Xperia 1 IV and Experia 10 IV in comparison

The first smartphone camera with real zoom is in the expensive Sony Xperia 1 IV. The cheap Xperia 10 IV is breaking records as a long-distance runner. A comparison test.

Two devices are enough to get an overview of almost the entire range of current Sony smartphones: the Sony Xperia 10 IV is the entry-level, and the 1 IV is at the other end. But what really separates the devices apart from the price difference of almost 1000 euros? We asked both devices to an unequal rendezvous.

Visually, the devices don’t differ much, apart from the fact that the 10 IV is slightly smaller. Both smartphones are equipped with OLED screens in 21:9 format, that of the 1 IV measures 6.5 inches diagonally, that of the 10 IV 6 inches. Both displays are – unusual for current smartphones – free of cutouts for a front camera. This sits in the narrow edge that frames the display.

Due to the elongated displays, both smartphones are slim and can be used well with one hand, the smaller 10 IV is a bit better. Both housings are of high quality, in a direct comparison this applies even more to the 1 IV in glass and metal casing. However, the robust plastic housing of the 10 IV is better protected against material jumps in the event of a fall. According to IP65/68, both housings are waterproof and dustproof – not a matter of course in the 500-euro class of the 10 IV.
