The start menu of Windows 11 is giving problems after an update

Windows 11 is an operating system that no one expected, and when Microsoft announced Windows 10, it gave us all the impression that said operating system was going to be the last, and that it would be kept up to date through an operating system-like approach. service, that is, based on major and minor updates that would keep it “fresh” and state-of-the-art in features and support of advanced technologies.

The thing is, for one reason or another, Microsoft decided to bring back the OS model as a product and released Windows 11, and seems to have “taken a liking” to this approach since it is rumored that the company is working on Windows 12, a new generation operating system that will hit the market sometime in 2024, at least in theory since all the information we have about it is unofficial.

It is a fact that Windows 11 had a bumpy launch, and that during its first weeks on the market it was affected by problems, bugs and major errors that, little by little, were overcome. However, this operating system has still not reached a fully mature phase. due to the errors that arise too oftenand that this time affect the start menu.

Windows 11

Microsoft itself has acknowledged that the start menu has stopped working on some Windows-based PCs because, in theory, the KB5014668 update produces some kind of error that prevents it from being activated. In short, that the Windows 11 start menu does not start, a play on words with a touch of humor for a problem that cannot be solved in a simple way, since it occurs whether we click on the icon or press the Windows key on our keyboard.

While we wait for Microsoft to decide to release a definitive solution in the form of a patch, we have as an alternative the temporary solution that the Redmond giant himself has given, and that I share with you as is, that is, with a direct translation:

“This problem is solved by known problem rollback (KIR). Please note that the resolution may take up to 24 hours to automatically propagate to consumer devices and unmanaged business devices. Restarting your Windows device can help the resolution apply to your device faster. For company-managed devices that have installed an affected update and encountered this issue, they can resolve the issue by installing and configuring a special Group Policy. The special group policy can be found in Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> KB5014668 220721_04201 Undo Known Issue -> Windows 11 (original version). For information on how to implement and configure these special Group Policies, see How to Use Group Policy to Implement a Rollback of Known Issues.

It looks like update KB5014668 has been plagued with problemsin fact one of the best known for its irony was that it was designed with the aim of solving a bug that prevented updating the operating system, but in the end it suffered a problem that caused the installation of the update itself to fail.
