Facebook will crack down on fake reviews

Facebook is in the list of platforms and social networks of general purpose most consulted when looking for opinions of products and services of all kinds. It is likely that, at this point, you have thought that there are much more popular services, such as TripAdvisor when it comes to hotels and restaurants. But of course, that is the key, the most popular sites are the specialized ones. However, if we talk about something more generic, the list is substantially reduced, and there Facebook knows how to take advantage of the large number of users who regularly use the service.

Added to this is the fact that many businesses of all kinds have a page on Facebook, in which, in addition to providing information and a way of contacting users they also allow them to publish their own opinions, images, answers in official publications and others. Thus, even users who have already stopped using Facebook as a social network do turn to the service when it comes to obtaining information about products and services. In addition, we can also find unofficial pages and groups with more information.

This, in general, is positive for users, since it allows them to collect a lot of information before buying a product or contracting any type of service. The search for opinions is one of the most common uses of the Internet, and the greater the volume of information and real opinions, the more precise the global assessment that we will have. Yes indeed, there is a key factor in this equation, and it is the veracity of said opinions.

Facebook will crack down on fake reviews

It is at this point that Meta wants to focus on Facebook, and as we can read on its blog, Meta has updated the community comment policy in the United States to Explicitly ban fake and paid comments on Facebook. With this change, users will not be able to post fake reviews, usually aimed at obtaining perks from valued companies, or as part of marketing campaigns that use this type of content on a regular basis.

Meta will remove those reviews that violate the policies and reserves the right to suspend access to some or all of its products. Repeat offenders could face suspensions or permanent bans from their Facebook accounts, and businesses could lose access to product listings and labels.

It is not an easy task, because in many cases it is difficult to determine if a review is legitimate or false, but it is indisputable that any measure in this regard is something to celebrate.
