iPhone 4s slow with iOS 9, Apple closes the class action with 20 million dollars
After more than six years from a class action brought by a group of American owners of iPhone 4s, Apple has agreed to end the legal hostilities with a compensation of $ 20 million. The case began with the release of iOS 9 in 2015, when Apple misleadingly promoted the operating system, according to the indictment.
At the center of the dispute is the promise of greater speed and responsiveness with iOS 9, which the group of customers in New York and New Jersey never encountered. Indeed, on the contrary, their iPhone suffered evident difficulties in managing an operating system that introduced innovations evidently out of range for the Apple A5 chip of the iPhone 4s, which also received iOS 9 as an end-of-career update.
A final farewell made bitter by a marketing operation that is too aggressive, misleading as regards iPhone 4s, whose performance deteriorated rather than improved as the Apple promisedwhich, by making $ 20 million available to put an end to the affair, tacitly made mea culpa.
Any customer who believes they are entitled to compensation will receive 15 dollarsbut the figure may decrease or increase (up to $ 150 each) based on the number of residents in the two states that will present “a statement subject to penalty in case of perjury that, to the best of their knowledge, have installed iOS 9 (or later versions) on their iPhone 4s […] experiencing a significant drop in performance “.

iPhone 4s was introduced in 2011 with iOS 5 and supported up to iOS 9.3.5 of August 2016. Five years of updates as per Apple’s policies, with an iOS 9.3.6 “bonus” (arrived in July 2019!) which fixed an important GPS bug. Since March 2021 it has been almost useless, as WhatsApp support has ceased.
