Wear OS: Google works on a way to transfer data from your watch when switching phones

If you’ve ever tried to transfer your Wear OS smartwatch link from one smartphone to another, you’ve probably come across the fact that this is not such a simple task. But apparently, this is about to change!

To transfer information between devices, the only way, currently, is to reset all the smart watch settings and configure it, from the beginning, linked to the new smartphone – something that can be quite unpleasant, especially if the device already had several of its own devices. set preferences.

But it seems that this limitation should be overcome soon. According to the international portal XDA Developers, Google is already working on how to improve this process, allowing you to backup and restore Wear OS.

Also according to the site, the beta version v22.32.12 of Google Play Services includes several references to backup wearables. The functionality is apparently in the early stages of development and it seems that the platform’s backups will be linked to Google One – which points to a similarity with the already existing feature for smartphones.

Unfortunately, there are still no indications of the arrival of the feature to watches and not even a hint of how the process will happen. With any luck, we’ll see it in the near future, but past experiences with these types of discoveries indicate that the functionality may take a little longer than we expect to reach the general public.

Not to put all Wear OS wearables in just one basket, Samsung watches with the embedded system already allow this transfer between devices, but the process is all done through Samsung, not Google; which implies that the exchange is limited to South Korean devices.
