Twitter takes a new step to end trolls and bots, is it enough?
One of the great problems that the social network Twitter has is that there is not the best possible control of what is behind each account. And, this, for many is a big problem. From what it seems, the company is working on a new way to advance in this section… but, the truth is that on paper there are many doubts about its effectiveness. Unfortunately, on Twitter the number of how many are bots are quite numerous, not to mention the trolls that swarm Twitter, giving many who want to share what they think with others a hard time (for example). To date, the efforts of the social network have not been very reliable in achieving this, and an example is verified accounts that have the corresponding blue icon. Therefore, it is clear that they have to do something to keep the platform somewhat cleaner. This is what Twitter works on As it has been possible to see in the social network itself (we leave an example after this paragraph), the idea they have is to review the information of the user’s telephone number and carry out a verification (everything indicates that in two steps), to perform a truth check. This, perhaps, with bots can have a suitable effect – since many duplicate numbers fraudulently – but with trolls things can go very differently. The reason for saying this is that, to obtain the verified account mark, a verification is already carried out using the associated smartphone. Therefore, nothing more is added -at least on paper- than what was already done. It remains to be seen if there is any additional protocol that allows for a verification of the terminal itself, but it will be necessary to see how it is if it exists. As a result, the first impression is not very positive (but, of course, these are the first data we have about it and everything can change). How will it be seen that you have an account with a verified phone? For this, the user’s profile will be used again. In it, a shield-shaped icon will be added that will show that a verification of the phone number has been carried out. Thus, with a simple review, everyone will be able to know if the account is trustworthy (everything you can have on a social network like Twitter, of course). It is positive that the company strives to keep its Internet space as clean as possible, but possibly it would be more appropriate to be much more aggressive in the measures to be taken -although this could make more than one user go on a war footing-. >
