The Google TV app will be able to broadcast to TVs directly, what does this mean?
Although not much is being said once the Google I/O kick-off event is over, the North American company’s developer conference is still taking place. And, therefore, some ‘pearl’ is possible to know between session and session. One of them has to do with your current television operating system: google tv. We tell you what it is.
By surprise, the firm that owns Android has announced that there will be a big change in the application that has the same name as the aforementioned operating system. This will be what will be enabled to be able to stream directly to Smart TVs, so sending movies or series from the phone will be much simpler and more comfortable than ever before. Good news, no doubt.
This may seem unimportant, but there is a detail that is essential in what is indicated: to achieve this, as long as the television has wireless connectivity and certain technologies that are already common, this can be done no need to have any dongle installed on TV. This is something that has not been possible to do to date, and it is a great improvement in the usability of the Google TV application.
What does this mean for Chromecasts
Well, it seems, apart from confirming that the models without an operating system remain useful devices, but that they will not see the light of day again by the Mountain View company (something that was more or less clear once the latest version of the player already includes Google TV), everything suggests that there will be crucial changes in this accessory. This could well be that it became a desktop player rather than an HDMI one… we’ll see.
Other consequences of what has been said is that Google could be considering expanding the compatibility of its wireless broadcast options. And, for this, it would admit the use of options such as Miracast or similar. The fact is that, if the fan opens, broadcasting from a phone with the Google TV application to televisions such as those of Samsung or LG It would be completely possible without a Chromecast involved. And yes, this is excellent news.
When will this new option for Google TV arrive?
Unfortunately, the company has not given much more information regarding the technological advances that are going to be included to achieve this, something that is essential to establish whether the advances are more or less significant. But what has become very clear is that the new functionality will be implemented end of this year 2022, as has been indicated in the source of the information. In this way, you have to wait… but not outrageously.
