Spotify tests podcast creation tools in main app
It’s nothing new that Spotify is bringing some of the features found in Anchor, its podcast recording and streaming platform, to its main app since its acquisition in early 2019.
But now it turns out Spotify is bringing podcast recording, editing, and publishing features directly to its main app, although these tools are currently in the testing phase and available only to users in New Zealand. market where the company came to present them very recently.
Everything you need in a single application
In this way, Spotify seeks that podcast creators can have everything they need in the main application, without the need to resort to other tools, neither their own nor third-party ones.
In this regard, the integration allows a creator to start from their content library, having a button at the bottom that will give them access to create a new playlist, or create a new podcast.
By selecting the podcast recording option, you will have the possibility of making the recording through an interface whose included button will give you the possibility of carry the entire recording continuously or through different audio recording segments, allowing you to take a number of breaks along the way.
After the recording is complete, It will have editing tools, allowing you to edit the clip and include background music obtained from a libraryamong other aspects, and once the podcast is fully edited, you can publish it with its title, description and other attributes.
As TechCrunch points out, these tools for creating, editing, and publishing podcasts are probably the closest integration with Anchor to date, although at the moment it is unknown if the company will allow them to be extended to other markets.
Interestingly, to say the least, in 2019 it even tested a podcast creation button in the main app, but that button encouraged creators to use the Anchor app instead.
The downside is that this new integration blurs the line between using the app as a user and using it as a creator a little more, and it may not be a good idea to have all the features in a single app.
