Outrage in networks for the change to the new Clip Studio Paint subscription plan
The community of digital creators who opted for Clip Studio Paint as an alternative to Adobe solutions show their outrage on networks when they learn that the parent company, Celsys, announced that version 2.0 of its application will work under a commercial model based on the monthly subscription when it is released sometime next year.
Clip Studio Paint, a digital illustration and animation tool, is now taking the same step that Adobe took in 2012 by moving to a subscription-based model based on the cloud, something that many creators who opted for this application tried to avoid at the time in search of a more affordable alternative.
A change that many do not like
In this regard, it should be noted that Clip Studio Paint has so far operated under a $49.99 one-time payment business model, although animators had a more advanced $219 variant.existing three variants of the same application, with different capabilities, and available in perpetuity for Windows and Mac platforms.
An announcement on the website states that the current one-time-purchase version will no longer be available for download, but also that it will also host no more updates by the time version 2.0 is released, except for updates for bug fixes and stability improvementswithout in any case receiving new functions.
The alternative offered to existing users is the so-called “Upgrade Pass”an alternative also by subscription with a validity period of one year, by which users can update to version 2.0 and receive monthly updates and new functions during the validity period.
The prices of the Upgrade Pass and the monthly subscription are unknown at the moment, although the company tries to calm things down by announcing that the price of the Upgrade Pass will be lower than the monthly subscription plans.
In any case, whoever has version 1.x will be able to continue using it as long as the desktop system where it is installed continues to allow it, being still available for those interested in it.
