iOS 16 makes it easier to remove duplicate photos cluttering up your gallery
The new iOS 16 introduces a feature that should be greatly appreciated by users who take a lot of photos, since it will soon be easier to delete identical photos from your gallery.
In addition to a feature to edit your discussions or delete them on Messages, a new lock screen customization option or even security patches that install automatically, Apple has also announced that iOS 16 would allow sort your photos more easily.
Indeed, during WWDC 2022, Apple introduced a new feature for the Photos app. On iOS 16, users will now be able to easily delete duplicate photos which often take up a lot of storage space.
How does the Remove Duplicates Tool work?
The new feature, called “duplicate detection”, can be found on iOS 16 in the Photos app. Just go to the Albums tab, then click on the new “duplicates” option under the Utilities section.
Your iPhone will use artificial intelligence to automatically detect any duplicate photos in your gallery. Each set of duplicates is listed with an option to merge the photos or videos into a single item. You can merge certain sets of duplicates or select all items to merge all detected duplicates. The good news is that merging obviously keeps things like favorites, keywords, and captions, and the best quality image or video is retained.
In addition to duplicate detection, the Photos application also has other interesting features, such as the possibility of copy changes made to one photo and paste them on other photos. It is also now easier to go back when editing a photo if the result does not suit you, whereas before you had to start all over again.
Anyway, we remind you that to take advantage of iOS 16, you must first have a compatible iPhone. Apple has discontinued the iPhone 6S, iPhone 7, and the first iPhone SE, so make sure you get a newer model. iOS 16 is currently available to developers, and should arrive for all users this fallon the occasion of the launch of the next iPhone 14.
