Google Photos brings changes to the photos and videos that we keep on file

Google Photos is rolling out a small change that could clarify the purpose of one of its most used features.

Don’t worry, it doesn’t change the dynamics for saving and managing photos and videos in Google Photos. We tell you what this update is about.

What’s new in Google Photos

One of the functions that we find in Google Photos to organize our photos and videos is File. The Google service gives us the possibility of sending to this section the photographs that we are interested in having on view in our library… they may be screenshots, images of receipts, repeated photographs, etc.

However, the Google team considers that the name “File” is not the most appropriate for this section of Photos. As mentioned in Android Headlines, several users have already seen this change in their Google Photos account, as they have come across this section under “Hidden”.

The rest of the dynamics of this section does not change at all. Users will be able to continue sending their photos and videos to this section so that it does not appear in the library, but is always available when they need to review it.

On the other hand, the Google team adds in the description of the change that the photos that are saved in this section will continue to appear in the albums and in the search results. One detail to keep in mind is that this section has a different purpose than the “Private Folder” of Google Photos.

What until now is called “Archive” simply hides our photos and videos from the library, but the content remains accessible and does not have any additional security measures. On the other hand, the “Private folder” hides the photos and videos so that they do not appear in any section of Google Photos or in other mobile apps.

On the other hand, the content that we save in the private folder is not synchronized, so if you uninstall Google Photos from your mobile, all the saved content will be permanently deleted.
