Google Maps will soon receive a new update. The latter will allow you to select your preferred mode of transport, so that you no longer have to choose it for each route. An option that was already available in another application installed by default on Android.
When the user plans a trip on Google Maps, he can choose between car, walk, bike or public transport via small cartels located at the top of the screen. Soon it will be possible to select your preferred mode of transport so that it is proposed by default.
The latest version of Google Maps, v11.28, is currently deployed and allows you to simply favorite a mode of transport. Do you only travel by car? What about the metro? Maps will no longer offer you walking, biking or VTC routes.
Google Maps adapts to your uses
Now it is possible to select your preferred mode in the app settings. If you choose driving and walking (it is possible to take more than one), Maps will only offer you these two options for directions. Everything will be done via the drop-down menu at the bottom of the screen, as shown in the visual of 9to5Google. The advantage of this new layout, is that it leaves more room for the overview of your journey. This will not change much in everyday life, but all the same makes the user experience a little more fluid. The Update should arrive on our smartphones in the next few days or weeks, at the latest.

Note that this feature already existed on Android, but not on Maps. She is indeed present in Google Assistant. Within the application, it is possible to choose its preferred mode, and it is therefore this one which is automatically proposed. However, this only works through Google Assistant (“Ok Google, give me directions to work), but not through Maps. The forces are therefore rebalanced.
Google Maps is improving in small increments over the months. Recently, red lights and stop signs appeared in car navigation. For pedestrians, crowded neighborhoods are now signposted, as are shops inside buildings. In just over fifteen years of existence, the service has become indispensable for everyone.
