Nostalgia for the first Android? This build is a time machine

With the arrival of the very first iPhone in June 2007, the world of smartphones has changed dramatically. Changedprecisely, because in reality it already existed among the proposals Windows Mobile, Symbian and PalmOS, with different approaches and that all of a sudden, with the appearance of the iPhone, they suddenly became obsolete.

In those years the confusion under the sky was great, with form factors that integrated the touchscreen (thought a little more for the fingers and a little less for the stylus, finally) and together with the physical keyboard, and the software it tested. to evolve in the direction traced by Cupertino. But it would take time to get the first acceptable results. And above all, it would not have been any of the companies already present on the mobile market at the time of the landing of the first iPhone, but Google.

Many years have passed since then, but not very many. In technology, however, 15 years is the equivalent of entire geological eras, and whoever had one of the first Android devices in their hands knows it well. If you want to take on the role of tech-archaeologists, today there is a precious find you can get your hands on: we are talking about second build of Android ever. Specifically, this is build htc-29386.0.9.0.0 from August 29, 2007 extracted from HTC Sooner (i.e. an HTC Excalibur with Android instead of Windows Mobile 5.0), the same prototype model that ended up on eBay two years ago.

A JUMP INTO THE PAST

The protagonist here, however, is not the smartphone, but this first version of Android designed for a BlackBerry-style device, with an alphanumeric keypad to occupy most of the front and a rectangular screen. The interface is radically different not only from Android 13 (we told you about the news of Beta 2.1), but from what the green robot has been offering for more than a decade.

Here we find a UI that in addition to being decidedly dated from a strictly graphic point of view is still designed to be used with physical keys, since before the triumph of the iPhone it seemed impossible to imagine phones capable of doing without them completely.

If you are curious to take a dip in the past and take a look at the ROM of one of the first ever incarnations of Android, to download it just follow the link in SOURCE.
