It has not been easy, since delivering packages with drones not only requires years of testing and development, it also depends on legal permissions from the organizations that control the airspace, and Amazon has already achieved everything to start its service in California and Texas.

It will now roll out drone delivery for Prime customers in those regions, giving the commercial drone industry a big boost. To do this, it will join Walmart, delivering packages of up to 2.5 kg using drones. Nothing too big, as there are certain limits, but enough to ship thousands of packages to customers in Lockeford, California and College Station, Texas.

From the communities that will receive the service, they indicate that they are happy to be pioneers in this sense, since they believe that they will help advance the delivery of drones for the rest of the country and perhaps for the rest of the world.

To perform the service, Amazon will contact customers offering the option of receiving fast, free drone delivery. When the customer accepts, you will see the items that you can order using PrimeAir on Amazon. The order will be placed normally, and you will receive an estimated delivery time within a period of about 5 hours.

These shipments will begin to take place later this year, so it seems that the losing streak of 2020, when the drone delivery unit suffered layoffs, is over.

The drones will travel at 80 km/hour at an altitude of about 120 meters, and will use a patented object detection system that will allow them to operate at greater distances while safely and reliably avoiding other aircraft, people, pets and obstacles.

The fact that drones can fly beyond the line of sight has been thanks to the approval of the FAA.

Once they arrive at the customer’s home, the drones will be able to detect chimneys and other drones, and will automatically change course to safely avoid them. You will find a small area around the drop-off location that is free of people, animals, and other obstacles.

This is excellent news for rural areas that today have to wait days to receive practically anything.
