Rosanna Davison says it is ‘gorgeous’ to see husband Wes as a dad after fertility struggles

Rosanna Davison says it’s “gorgeous” to see her husband Wes as a father after facing such dark times during their pregnancy struggles.

The former Miss World has been open about their heartbreaking road to parenthood during which she suffered 15 miscarriages.

She and her husband Wes Quirke have since welcomed their daughter Sophia in 2019 via surrogacy in Kyiv and gave birth to their “miracle” twins Hugo and Oscar just a year later.

And the model says she also feels her husband has been reborn in her eyes since they welcomed their kids.

She told the Irish Mirror: “Well seeing him as a dad, it’s like a new person is born when your baby’s born, because you’re seeing you know, your partner or your husband or boyfriend through different eyes, you’re seeing them as a dad.

“And I think it’s gorgeous, and he is such a fantastic dad to them and obviously he has to go to work and run a business, but he’s there, you know, from whenever they wake up at six o’clock or 6.30 in the morning until he leaves for work. And then he comes home in the evening, he puts him to bed and plays with them.”

The 38-year-old daughter of singer Chris De Burgh added: “I suppose we’re lucky that our journey did bring us closer together, ultimately.”

But she recalled the “dark days” along the way, where she begged her husband to leave her while they were struggling to conceive a child together.

“You know, there were challenges along the way. In around 2017 I just got to a dark point where I thought Wes would be better off without me and better off meeting somebody else who he could have a family with.

“And now we laugh about that now because we’re, you know, elbow deep, dirty nappies. And we have three children.

“But I think when you’re in a dark place, then it seems like a solution to set someone free because you love them.

“I suppose we look back with relief really, that it did all work out.”

She added: “But the advice I give to any couple or individual going through fertility struggle is that you have to look after each other within your relationship, but also find support outside your relationship because, it tends to be that maybe the male partner is picking you up each time that you have a loss or a barrier in the road, whereas you need to look after each other as individuals and as a couple.

“That’s an important piece of advice I’ve always given to people.”

Rosanna has spoken about how she feels it was her “duty” to offer their home to her Ukrainian surrogate, who gave birth to her first child Sophia via gestational surrogacy in November 2019.

Speaking at the launch of Tan Organic’s BFF Brush yesterday, the long-time brand ambassador says she is still in constant contact with the woman, and hopes she will make the journey to safety at their home in Ireland soon.

Rosanna said: “I do hope it’ll happen. I’ve kind of left that option open for as long as possible.

“[Her town] It’s occupied by the Russian military, it hasn’t been destroyed and attacked in the same way, say, Mariupol has, but they never know what’s going to happen day to day and whether things will change.

“It’s terrifying. I’m in constant contact with her though and they’re OK, they’re surviving at the moment.”

“I’ve heard a lot of people saying this recently, really since the war began, that we’re so lucky to live in Ireland.

“We do complain about the cost of living and traffic and that kind of thing, but I suppose in the context of what’s happening in Ukraine and what I’m hearing back from how they’re living and surviving; under curfews and with kind of limited food and other provisions and medicines…we do have a good quality of life here and it has definitely made me more grateful.”
